LA BASTILLE

The Bastille, a state prison and a symbol of Ancien Régime tyranny, fell to the people of Paris on 14th July 1789, marking the beginning of the Revolution. The square where the Bastille once stood is now the home of one of the Paris opera houses, known as l'Opéra-Bastille.
