| The military occupation of part of France after the French-German armistice on 22nd June 1940, which spread throughout to the whole country in 1942. Under the terms of the armistice, France had to contribute financially to the upkeep of German troops in France and provide labour for German factories. Thousands of French Jews were deported during this period by the Vichy government. |
