The German famos should not be confused with the normal sense of the English word famous it actually means marvellous. Eine famose Erfindung might therefore be translated as a marvellous invention.
Famous when used to describe people or places is usually berühmt, so the famous pyramids of Giza can be rendered as die berühmten Pyramiden von Gizeh.
Fachabitur
The Fachabitur, colloquially known as the Fachabi, is a vocationally-oriented version of the Abitur that entitles students to attend a Fachhochschule. To obtain the qualification, pupils must do a work placement in addition to written work. The Fachabitur can also be taken by mature students.
